Every day when you wake up, you get a chance to live life all over again. It’s another chance to go after that to-do list, fall in love, end a bad habit, email your CEO for coffee––basically do anything you’ve ever wanted to do. But the real questions is:  

Are you making daily decisions to help you live a life you love?

Sure, you might not have your dream job or live in your favorite city, but don’t let that stop you from loving the life you have now and making intentional decisions to create it. When you design the life you love, it sets you up to succeed in the long term. Let’s start with some tips to help you design the life that makes you wake up in the morning ready to have a great day.

Write Your Plan Down

Grab a pen and paper and write down all the things that make you feel happy and the things that you'd like to change or pivot moving forward. It can be something as simple as making your bed, or more complex, like feeling valued at your place of work. Examine your list and pick out the things that are actionable so you can incorporate them into your daily life. For example, if you added that coffee makes you happy, make an effort to wake up a few minutes early and spend time enjoying your cup of coffee while listening to your favorite songs or catching up on news.

Make a Pattern

It may seem boring and cumbersome, but making a daily routine can put you at ease and help you look forward to waking up every day. In fact, many of the world's most successful women credit their morning routine as a key element to success. As for me, I like to drink a cup of coffee on my front porch and check my social media channels first thing in the morning. It’s the one thing I look forward to, just a quiet and informative moment before I get my day started. If working out in the morning is your thing, go to the gym or take a jog around the block. You’ll look forward to feeling the morning breeze. If you get bored of your routine, change it up in a way that still pushes you forward. If you need to be active in the morning but the jog is getting mundane, opt for a quick dance or Zumba session to your newest jam; it can be a great workout and you’ll laugh at how ridiculous you look, which will get those endorphins going.

Put Yourself First

Ah, the thing that is often hardest for women to do. Let me be the one to tell you, when it comes to designing the life you love, you have to put yourself first. The truth is no one else will be truly happy around you unless you make yourself happy. Don’t let someone come in and try to create a life for you that isn't growing you or making you a person you want to be. Stick to your guns, and remember your routine. Inconveniencing yourself to make others comfortable will only leave you with resentment and unaccomplished goals. It’s your life. You are in control. Do your thing.
