There are multiple components that factor in to someone’s success, but the people in our lives definitely have an influence on our journey. While it’s important to rid yourself of the negative people in your life, you have to seek out the people who will make you the best version of yourself. Here’s a breakdown of the five different people that can help you achieve the life you want.
The Connector in your life is the reason why thank-you notes exist. This is the person introducing you to all of the people, places and things you need to be exposed to in your life. They know a wide range of unique individuals, either by chance or by circumstance. And they have also turn you on to that new app that has saved your life or the best happy hour spot in town. Life is all about making connections, trying new things and meeting new people will help you grow both personally and professionally.
The ‘Gayle to Your Oprah’
Chances are if you’ve heard of Oprah Winfrey, you’ve heard of Gayle King. These BFFs of 30+ years are fiercely loyal and show each other never-ending support in their careers and personal endeavors. If you’re going to be successful, you need a Gayle. This person knows you well, wants nothing but the best for you and will always be there on your journey to the top. You’ll need them to turn to when things get tough, but more importantly to drink champagne with when things go well. This is a relationship of mutual support and trust, and it’s essential to success.
The ‘Jane of All Trades’
This person is the one that knows how to calculate the tip and tax at dinner, code a website and write a flawless introduction email. They are fantastic with numbers and logistics, not to mention their organization skills, and they are usually on speed dial when you need a Ms.Fix-It. Their many talents leave you in awe, and you find yourself bragging about their skills at cocktail parties. You’ll want them in your corner especially if you’re starting a new endeavor, because how else are you going to fill out that W-2?
You have more deadlines and projects that you can count, and all you really need is a good laugh. Cue the Anti-Stresser. This is the person who is guaranteed to bring a smile to your face and make you forget about spilling coffee down your white blouse on the first day of work (until it’s OK to joke about.) They come over with bottles of wine (yes, plural), a hilarious story and a YouTube video you HAVE to see. This person will keep you grounded when you take things to seriously and let you know that it’s all going to work out in the end.
A mentor can be a woman older than you who works in the field you’re looking to dive into, or someone you look up to because they embody everything you want to be as a person. The Mentor can be the previous four people all wrapped in one –– always offering the truth, the bright side, the common sense and the wisdom. They’ve been where you are and want to see you succeed.
With a sweet mixture of these five people, you’re well on your way to finding success.
